Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps
The preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for El Paso County were released this summer by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designating the proposed areas located within a flood zone. The revisions come as part of FEMA’s effort to modernize the maps at a national level. Please note the proposed changes are NOT effective until a formal process is expedited by FEMA.
Effective December 20, 2007, FEMA has instituted the appeal and protest period for residents and property owners to allow for the representation of technical information refuting the proposed changes to the preliminary FIRMs. The 90-day appeal/protest period will close on March 19, 2008. Information may be submitted electronically to FEMAAppealandProtest@elpasotexas.gov . For more information, please call 541-4200.
