El Paso commuters looking for a smarter way to travel are invited to step on board Sun Metro's SMART 101 or SMART 103.
Both routes provide express, limited-stop service for riders needing to get to Oregon Street and Alameda Avenue.
SMART 101 travels swiftly from Downtown El Paso to the University of Texas at El Paso in about 15 minutes, limiting its route to only five stops. The service is ideal for passengers heading to El Paso Community College’s Rio Grande campus, the hospital district, UTEP and the Kern Place area.
SMART 103 allows passengers to go from Downtown El Paso to the intersection at Alameda Avenue and Socorro Road in about 40 minutes, drastically reducing a bus rider’s travel time. Like the 101, SMART 103 has only five stops. The route is perfect for people heading to University Medical Center, Fox Plaza, Lakeside Shopping Center, San Vicente Clinic and Ysleta High School.
SMART 101 incorporates technology that syncs with or manipulates street lights using automotive vehicle-locator sensors that send signals to traffic lights, shortening red traffic lights and lengthening green traffic lights In the near future, new SMART 103 buses will also operate with the technology to be in sync with or manipulate street lights. This technology will help improve travel time for SMART 103 as well as future services.
