Summit seeks to develop a community action plan to improve literacy in El Paso
The El Paso Public Library will be hosting a Literacy Summit at the Main Library on Wednesday, September 8, which is International Literacy Day. The summit will offer participants the opportunity to attend two of four breakout sessions addressing: Adult Education; Workplace Literacy; Family Literacy; Bi-National Education. These working sessions will hold panel discussions and presentations by experts in the field and will highlight student success stories of individuals who have benefited by participating in programs that address issues of literacy.
This one-day summit will attempt to bring business, government, community and education leaders together to address literacy issues in El Paso and to work together toward offering viable solutions. The Keynote speaker will be Dale Lipschultz, American Library Association Literacy Officer with opening remarks from Congressman Silvestre Reyes, Texas District 16 and Congressman Ruben Hinojosa, Texas District 15.
