QUALITY OF LIFE

Older El Pasoan Hall
of Fame 2010 Winners

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program has been serving the volunteer senior community of El Paso for over 36 years.  RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers as it matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to serve their communities. The program provides service opportunities for those who want to make a difference in their communities while maintaining the flexibility to decide who and how frequently they serve. Close to 1,600 RSVP volunteers serve in 100 non-profit organizations and agencies in the City and County of El Paso. To date local RSVP volunteers have given close to 7 million hours in service to our community.

Each year the City of El Paso recognizes four El Pasoans ages 65 and over for their outstanding contribution to the community through their volunteer efforts.

This year marks the Older El Pasoans Hall of Fame 31st year honoring senior volunteers for their conscientious dedication and steadfast commitment towards addressing the needs of our community.

There are two qualifying criteria for this event:  1) those nominated must be 65 years of age or older and 2) have actively volunteered for the benefit of others, especially for senior adults in El Paso. There is a special mention award category for a volunteer 85 years of age or older.

This year, the RSVP Older El Pasoan Hall of Fame was held at the Wyndham Airport Hotel on May 12, 2010. There were 53 volunteers nominated and all were recognized with a special Certificate of Appreciation for their excellent volunteer services. From those that received a nomination, four were honored with an award and were inducted into the Older El Pasoans Hall of Fame.

There were three winners between the ages of 65-84, and one winner over the age of 85. The Older El Pasoan Hall of Fame Committee members selected this year’s winners.
