“Party for the Planet: Earth Day 2010” at the El Paso Zoo
Party for the Planet hosted by the nation’s Association of Zoo and Aquarium’s accredited institutions is one of the largest Earth Day celebrations on record! Millions of zoo and aquarium visitors across North America party for the planet with family fun and renew their commitment to wildlife conservation. This year the El Paso Zoo joins the party again by hosting a variety of conservation partners. Guests learn the latest ways to be kind to their wallet and the environment!
Live music will be presented by DJ Ivan from 11am to 3pm and the musical group “the D.A.” will be playing in the Asia breezeway outside the Grasslands Café from 1pm to 2pm.
Activities
El PasoWaterUtilitiesDiscoveryCenter (at the new front gate) – El Paso Water Utilities Education Program and a conservation booth presented by El Paso County Master Gardeners.
El Paso Electric Kalahari Research Station – Learn about solar energy and how you can set up solar at your home from the Solar Energy Association and Solar Smart Living.Zoo volunteers will also demonstrate how to recycle materials into fuel briquettes, an important global conservation program helping people living in rural areas cook their food without having to cut down trees.
ParajeDiscoveryCenter – Take Action and help save critically endangered Mexican wolves.Learn about the City of El Paso’s new Sustainability Plan, the Rio Grande Council of Governments recycling efforts and how Chihuahuan Desert Wildlife Rescue is coming to the aid of native animals here in El Paso and the surrounding region.
Golden Eagle Presentation Area – Located next to the Mexican Wolf Exhibit we will have Golden Eagle Encounters at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
Get your face painted for the party and learn about the CanutilloIndependentSchool District’s Eagle’s Rock environmental education program and how to become a Franklin Mountains State Park Junior Ranger.
AsianDiscoveryCenter– Learn about Palm Oil and how to buy food for your family that is healthy for you and the animals from around the world.

The El Paso Zoo is a thirty five-acre home to about 240 species of animals. Approximately 500 mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds, 100 fish and 250 invertebrates live in a variety of natural habitat exhibits including a Reptile House, South American Pavilion, Americas Aviary, Cisneros Paraje, Birds of Prey, Forest Atrium, Asian Grasslands and an Elephant Complex. The El Paso Zoo is a member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA). With its more than 200 accredited members, AZA is a leader in global wildlife conservation.
