Drowning Prevention Coalition
The Drowning Prevention Coalition and many partnering agencies in the community will observe April Pools Day on April 17, 2010 at various times and locations throughout the city.

            The Coalition encourages all citizens throughout the area to understand our slogan of: “Respect the Water.. Children Drown in Silence.”

 

            The Drowning Prevention Coalition wants to promote, develop and support training and community education efforts that prevent drowning, near drowning and other water related incidents in the El Paso County and surrounding areas.

 

            This first ever community coalition encourages all El Pasoans to attend an April Pools Day event on April 17, 2010 at 21 different area pools, free of charge, that is geared to focus on individuals throughout the city to remember “Respect the Water.”

 

            The sites on the attached list will have free swimming (except Apartment Association locations) and much more for the entire family.Water Safety tips will be given by the American Red Cross, Wet and Wild Water World and the El Paso, Ysleta and the Socorro Independent School Districts.

 

            The event is sponsored by Price’s Creameries Give Em’ Five Fund, El Paso Water Utilities, Greater El Paso Board of Realtors and University Medical Center.

 

            Laura Jackson, All-American Swimmer from the University of Arizona and a recent inductee into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame and Jake Hartley two-time Texas State Swim Champion will be on hand touring the different April Pools Day locations giving water safety tips.

 

Also on hand will be Miss El Paso and Miss Teen El Paso.
