The 14th Annual Día de los Niños / Día de los Libros will be held on Saturday, April 24th from 11 AM to 6 PM at WashingtonPark next to the El Paso Zoo. The event is organized through a partnership between the El Paso Public Library and Parks and Recreation to promote the importance of reading, education and health to children regardless of social, cultural or economic background. This year’s special guest will be Dora the Explorer who will perform on stage throughout the day.
Each child that attends will be given a free book. In addition, there will be hundreds of activities for children to take part in free of charge. There will also be a stage with live entertainment all day. The performers include Ronald McDonald, Los Payasos, Ballet Folklorico Totec, Bowie Dance Ensemble, Dora the Explorer and many more. Kids will be able to sign up for Parks and Recreation’s Club Rec. Sun Metro will be offering free bus rides to and from the event all day for kids 6 to 18 years of age. There will be free parking and shuttle from El Paso County Coliseum to the park area.
There is no cost to attend and all the games are free. Food vendors will be on hand offering traditional El Paso festival fare such as aguas frescas, gorditas, stuffed churros, taquitos, hamburgers, hot dogs and more at very reasonable prices.
Since its inception, the event has given away more than 100,000 books and has been attended by an estimated 150,000 people. Hundreds of local agencies, non-profits and businesses have also taken part in the event. For more information call 543-5433 or visit www.elpasolibrary.org.
