Washing Machine Rebate Program
Sustainability Program Offers Residents One-Time Rebate of $100
In an effort to promote conservation, the City of El Paso Sustainability Program is offering a rebate to residential El Paso Water Utilities customers, who purchase energy-efficient washing machines.
The program offers a one-time rebate of $100 to residential El Paso Water Utilities customers, who purchase new clothes washers with an Energy Star label for use within the city limits.
The Energy Star is a federally-approved label given to energy-efficient products that offer savings on energy bills without sacrificing performance, features, and comfort.
“This is a great opportunity to save money and help the environment by saving electricity and water,” said Marty Howell, City of El Paso Sustainability Program manager.
The washing machine rebate program is available to El Paso Water Utilities customers on a first-come, first-served basis. The rebates are subject to the availability of funds received by the City from the U.S. Department of Energy.
A list of clothes washer models approved for this program is available at www.cee1.org. If a model is not on the list, you may call the clothes washing machine phone line at (915) 621-2002 to see if it qualifies for the program. Residents interested in the rebate are encouraged to verify if a clothes washer model qualifies for the program before making a purchase.
Energy Star Washing Machine Rebate Program Guidelines/Requirements
Participants in the program must be direct residential customers of the El Paso Water Utilities at the time the washing machine is purchased.
The washing machine for which the rebate is issued must be installed within the El Paso Water Utilities service area and operated for at least five years.
To be eligible for a rebate, customers must call (915) 621-2002 and schedule a verification inspection appointment within 90 days of the washing machine’s date of purchase. The washing machine must be installed and operating at the time of the inspection.
Appointments will be scheduled Monday through Friday. An inspection must be conducted and the customer must provide the original purchase receipt before a rebate is issued.
The old washing machine must be given to El Paso Water Utilities personnel for recycling at the time of the verification. The machine must be in a safe, secure and accessible location for pick up and disposal by EPWU personnel.
Customers must complete a follow-up questionnaire about the rebate program.
A $100 rebate check and the original purchase receipt will be mailed to the customer four to six weeks after office approval.
