DEVELOPMENT AND INFRASTRUCTURE
Reminder: Approved FY2010 Changes to take effect
On August 25, 2009, the City Council adopted the Fiscal Year 2010 budget for the City of El Paso. Please note that as part of the approved budget resolution, effective September 1, 2009 the Development Services Department will have in place a new uniform Commercial Building Permit and contractor registration and fee requirement.
Commercial Building Permits
This new initiative consists of a single building permit issuance for any commercial project. Included in the building permit will be all electrical, mechanical, plumbing and structural components required for the project. This will combine and replace the previous practice of requiring separate permit issuances for each of these elements. In this new permit process any trade contractors associated with a project must be identified prior to the issuance of a building permit.
Any contractor conducting construction, installation or maintenance activities for which a city building permit is required will need to submit an application for registration with the City and pay a fee of $100.00. Proof of bond and insurance and/or the corresponding state licenses for electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire will be required as part of this application process.
