City Wide Planning Process Begins

The City of El Paso has begun a multi-phase planning process to create specific plans for the former Asarco Plant, three future Transit Oriented Development (TOD) sites within the City, and to ultimately update the City’s Comprehensive Plan.  The planning effort will be combined with previous planning efforts and studies to create a workable plan and roadmap to guide development, policy, and growth decisions.  The public is urged to take part in the process.

These past few weeks we have encountered SEVERE Heat in the Sun City and we are urging the public to take action to protect themselves and others during these extreme weather conditions. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program – Calling All Seniors is assisting in the efforts to BEAT THE HEAT!

Calling All Seniors is a FREE friendly telephone call service from one senior to another which provides a friendly visit by phone.

Sun Metro Host Public Meetings
Mass Transit Department Proposes Fare Increase for 2011

 

Sun Metro will host eight community meetings to discuss a proposed fare increase for regular, students and LIFT passengers. The proposal does not increase the fare for senior and disabled passengers, and calls for the elimination of transfer fees.

Summer Ozone Season Begins June 1st

The monitoring period for summer ozone in El Paso County started June 1st.

During this period gasoline stations in El Paso will switch to Low Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) Gasoline. The monitoring period runs through Sept. 15.

The effort aims to help reduce hydrocarbon emissions from vehicles, which contribute to ozone pollution.

Holiday Schedule for Sun Metro and Fourth of July Detours

Sun Metro’s regular (fixed-route) and LIFT (paratransit) services will run their regular Sunday schedule on Sunday, July 4, and will maintain a regular weekday schedule on Monday, July 5.

The customer service line also will operate a regular schedule from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 5.

Sun Metro’s administrative office, the Eastside Transit Terminal, 1165 Sunmount, and the Bert Williams Downtown Santa Fe Transfer Center, 601 Santa Fe, will be closed on Monday, July 5. All Sun Metro services and facilities will resume a regular schedule on Tuesday, July 6.

The Fourth of July celebrations will require detours of 17 routes beginning Thursday, July 1, through Sunday, July 4.

The Downtown Street Festival will require detours for routes 1, 4, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 21, 22, 33, 34, 35, 36, 50, 59 and SMART 101 will apply from 6 a.m. Thursday, July 1, to 1 p.m. Sunday, July 4. The Independence Day Celebration will require the detour of routes 13, 14 and 15 from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 3.
