Proposed FEMA FIRM Revisions: Appeal/Protest Period Begins

Effective December 20, 2007, FEMA has instituted the 90-day appeal and protest period for residents and property owners who would like to provide scientific or technical information refuting the proposed changes to the preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs).

The FIRMs for El Paso County were released this summer by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designating the proposed areas located within a flood zone. The revisions come as part of FEMA’s effort to modernize the maps at a national level. Please note the revisions are not effective until a formal process is expedited by FEMA.

For more information on the appeal/protest process and to view the FIRMs, please visit the City’s website, and click on the banner at the middle of the page that reads, “City of El Paso Flood Zone Maps”.
