The El Paso Museum of Art Foundation Announces a $100,000 Gift
The El Paso Museum of Art Foundation announces a $100,000 gift from Steven McKnight, Nancy McKnight – Howell and Elizabeth McKnight – Manning, children of Frank and Sara McKnight, to establish the McKnight Family Endowment of the El Paso Museum of Art Foundation, which will be used to support the McKnight’s retablo collection, also donated to the El Paso Museum of Art by the McKnight Family.
The importance of Mexican retablos is both historical and aesthetic. Originally
placed in homes or houses of worship, these were used for personal and sacred reverence. Today we can appreciate their history and beauty, and understand their function, versatility and their portability. The McKnight Collection: Santos y Ex-Votos exhibition showcases a recent gift of oil on copper, tin or canvas retablos given to the El Paso Museum of Art by Steven McKnight, Nancy McKnight – Howell and Elizabeth McKnight - Manning. The exhibition will show through January 27, 2008 and is curated by Katherine Smith.
