Dia De Los Muertos Festival
The City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department in partnership with several other organizations brings the Dia de los Muertos celebration to downtown El Paso November 1-3, 2007. This 3-day event will provide El Pasoans with a fusion of art, culture, music and fun for all members of the family.
As part of the celebration, Creative Kids/Olo Gallery will be hosting an inaugural celebration on November 1, 2007 with special musical guest Sangre Gitana. This celebration is the official opening to the Dia de los Muertos and will kick off the Culture Cruise. June’s Culture Cruise was a huge success with community members of all ages, and now it is back by popular demand! This time, it’s To Die For.
Come and enjoy live musical performances from some of El Paso’s local artists at Union Plaza, one of El Paso’s most beautiful best kept secrets. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with the sounds of Mariachi Los Toritos and closing at 11:00 p.m. to the festive beats of Border Roots. The celebration will highlight a Mercado de Los Huesos or Bones Market which will feature the work of local artisans and the best Mexican food local vendors have to offer. A live procession of dancers and musicians, led by costumed performers and giant puppets (mojigangas) will take place at 8:00 p.m under the direction of the professional performance company Eden Enterprises. The Union Plaza night clubs (Vanilla, 1914, Shadow Lounge and Studio 69) will open their doors early for cocktails.
A Dia For Children to Remember. Saturday November 3rd was specially designed with our little ones in mind. Although all events are family friendly, Saturday’s programming was developed to engage the minds of children. Visit the newly opened Philanthropy Theater for plays and dance performances. El Paso’s Main Public Library and La Mujer Obrera will also have children’s programming and festivities.
