Incident Period Closes for Storm Damage; Applications for Assistance Still Being Accepted by FEMA
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) closed at midnight Friday, August 25, 2006 the incident period for storm damage incurred during recent storms in El Paso County.
“Any damage resulting from storms after the closing will not be covered by the disaster declaration,” Kenneth Clark, FEMA federal coordinating officer, said. “Those who suffered losses resulting from storms within the incident period can still register with FEMA and we encourage them to do so as soon as possible.”
Those wishing to register for assistance can either call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or go online at www.FEMA.gov.
“We are awaiting notification of our request to revise the start of the disaster declaration from July 31 to July 27,” Frank Cantu, state coordinating officer for the Governor’s Division of Emergency Management, said. “Those who need to register for assistance have 60 days from the declaration date to file for assistance. However, they should register immediately if they had damage from the storms.”
To date, 3,180 individuals have registered for FEMA assistance. As of September 1, 2006, about 2,648 inspections were issued with 2,531 inspections completed.
