Digital Signs Helping to Alleviate Wait Times at International Bridges
Two portable message boards at the Zaragosa and Santa Fe Street (Paso Del Norte) international bridges are helping to speed up border crossing wait times by reminding the traveling public to prepare for inspection.
The digital signs were recently placed near the U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspection stations by the City of El Paso International Bridges Department.
The message boards advise motorists and their passengers to prepare for inspection by ending all cell phone conversations, declaring all items and having their documentation ready for inspection. Each message is displayed on an 8-second cycle and is delivered in both English and Spanish.
“The City of El Paso has received very positive public feedback regarding these message boards and CBP has commented that they have helped tremendously,” stated Said Larbi-Cherif, director of the City of El Paso International Bridges Department.
Each bridge received one message board. The total cost of the signs purchased through bridge toll revenue was $36,000.
