City Takes Leadership Role in LEED Certification

City Council recently approved an Ordinance adopting the United States Green Building Council-Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification requirements for the construction of all new and renovated city-owned buildings 5,000 square feet and larger.

This action presents an innovative opportunity to convert the design and construction of the built environment in our community towards energy efficiency. Notably, the benefits of applying green building measures can result in significant cost savings by encouraging resource conservation and reducing waste generated by construction projects.

State and local governments across the country are adopting LEED for public-owned and public-funded buildings. The LEED Green Building Rating System provides multiple certification levels of which the City has targeted Silver Certification providing for added sustainability measures.
