Citizen Academy Gives Community Opportunity to Get Involved and Help Their Community

The El Paso Police Department's 18th Citizens' Police Academy will begin on August 15, 2006. Those interested in attending can pick up an application at any of the regional command centers or at Police Headquarters. Registration ends Friday, August 4, 2006. The academy will meet on Tuesdays, Thursdays and occasionally on Saturdays and will conclude on September 26, 2006 with a special graduation. Those that attend will be able to experience a ride-along and learn about the different sections of the police department such as Crimes Against Persons, Special Traffic Investigations, SWAT and many others. Students will also have an opportunity to meet the Commanders of the different Regional Command Centers. After completion of the class students will eligible to join the Citizens Police Academy Alumni, a non-profit organization that assists the Police Department in various education and prevention functions. For more information interested parties can call the Public Affairs Office at 564-7322.
