Open Space Conservation Plan Community Meetings

Open Space Conservation Plan Community Meetings The City has initiated the planning process to develop a comprehensive Open Space Conservation Plan for El Paso and invites the public to participate. This is the first time the City has committed to preserve natural open space by developing a long-term plan.

The Open Space Conservation Plan is a separate initiative that will compliment the Parks & Recreation Master Plan by looking at a long-term plan for acquisition of open space throughout the city.

The initiative began with the first meeting of the Open Space Advisory Group (OSAG), a group made of 40+ El Pasoans from different sectors (i.e. residents, business, community) on June 28, 2006, launching the community meetings. A series meetings has already commenced, with a kick-off that took place on July 25th.

The additional upcoming meetings, which are open to the public, are scheduled on the following dates:
DATE TIME LOCATION ADDRESS PLANNING AREA
August 1 6-8 p.m. Eastwood Recreation Center 3110 Parkwood East
August 2 6-8 p.m. EPCC Transmountain Campus 9570 Gateway North Northeast

After the public meetings are completed, the OSAG will evaluate all input received, develop a map of current and future open space areas and will determine strategies for implementation. This map will be presented to City Council, along with suggestions on how to realize the goals.

Take the Survey! The public is encouraged to complete an on-line survey providing additional feedback throughout this initiative http://www.elpasotexas.gov/green_infrastructure/survey.asp
