Aquatic Facilities: Enjoying the Water During the Summer Months
The City Parks and Recreation Department has its various aquatic facilities at full steam for the summer. The pools are open at different hours during the summer as the Department has nine indoor pools and five outdoor pools located throughout the city for the citizens of El Paso.
The Aquatics Office, which is located at 4001 Durazno, also employs hundreds of high school and college students during the summer months for lifeguard duties and also the Gus and Goldie Learn to Swim Program. The division also plays host to public and private swim team championships that involve almost every competitive swim team in the city.
The public pool city championships will be on July 23 and the private pool championships on July 14, 15 and 16. Each year the city also hosts the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation swimming championships. This year will have the qualifier on July 9 and the finals on July 22 and 23 at the brand new state of the art Memorial Park indoor pool.
Monday through Thursdays also represent family night at select pools from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For more information on the aquatics facilities, pool rentals or Gus and Goldie pool parties, please call 541-4594.
