Girders & Growth at the Zoo!
Drive by the El Paso Zoo and you'll see the beginnings of constructionů
Heavy equipment and girders are visible from the street, as the
Zoo readies for its Western Expansion. Water flows by in the canal
where a bridge is to be built this summer, connecting old with new.
When it's completed, zoo-goers will be able to walk over the water
and go from Asia to Africa - without even leaving the country! The
El Paso Zoo already has its Americas and Asia exhibit areas, and
we're excited that Africa is on its way!
Already, emails are flowing into mailboxes as the City is accepting bids on a number of projects for the Africa Expansion into what was once Dudley Field. Soon, you'll see construction on a New Zoo Entry Area with a Ticket Building, and your kids will someday learn about conservation at the El Paso Water Utilities Education Discovery Center. Other bids include construction on the new Africa exhibits that will house Lions, Giraffes and Antelopes. For ongoing information about the Zoo expansion, keep checking the City website: www.elpasotexas.gov.
And by the way, volunteers are always welcome and needed for zoo events. Please contact Ann Langenfield at 351-5340 or call 521-1850.
