Crime Stoppers of El Paso Inc. Tops State in Annual Conference
El Paso's non-profit crime fighting organization tops the state at a recent annual State conference. Crime Stoppers of El Paso Inc. won "Best Television Crime of Week" and the Productivity Award for "Greatest Dollar Recovery in a City With Populations Between 500,001 to 1,000,000." These awards were announced at the 2006 Texas Crime Stoppers Conference that was held in San Antonio on the evening of May 18th. The Crime of the Week award was given to a reenactment that was done on a 2005 Aggravated Robbery case of All State Auto Sales during which an armed suspect walked into the business, assaulted an employee and a customer by hitting them with a gun, and then took their purse and wallet. The filming and editing of the award winning "Crime of the Week" was done by Eddie Romero who works as the Chief Photographer for KTSM Channel 9. The Productivity Award was based on the largest amount of narcotics seized and stolen property recovered. This award was possible in part to a seizure of more than 6,000 pounds of marijuana through a Crime Stoppers Tip by an anonymous caller that El Paso Police Detective Carlos Carrillo, assisted by Unit Supervisor Javier Sambrano, developed and that was followed up on by the West Texas HITDA Stash House Unit in the 1st quarter of 2005.
