Scenic Sundays in El Paso
In its first year of existence, Ciclovia was a tremendous event. Ciclovia is a temporary urban space in which public streets are closed to motor vehicles so that pedestrians, cyclists, rollerbladers and walkers can take over. It is much different than a race, parade, trail or bike lane. During Ciclovia, participants experience the outdoors with the additional thrill of free movement on a road that is usually congested with automobile traffic.
Continuing on the momentum of this family-styled event that took place last year in May 2007, the City’s Parks and Recreation Department will begin hosting Scenic Sundays. It will give El Pasoans, their families and their pets, along with visitors from surrounding areas, the opportunity to ride, skate, walk or run on Scenic Drive from 6:00 a.m. to Noon on Sundays beginning in April and lasting though August 31st. The route runs on Scenic Drive from Rim Road to Alabama.
In order to ensure all participants can safely enjoy the event, J.A.R. Concrete will line the area with barrels for safety and the El Paso Police Department will have officers patrolling the route.
Enjoy Scenic Sundays and take advantage of this unique opportunity enjoy El Paso’s beautiful weather and breathtaking scenery throughout the summer months.
