The City of El Paso's Department of Community and Human Development's Foster Grandparents Program
Consuelo Gomez, Rafaela Mireles, Mary Gallegos & Mike Gallegos
Ninety nine years of volunteer service…That's what these four people pictured here represent. They are volunteers with the City of El Paso Foster Grandparent Program. All four are in their 24th and 25th year of volunteering with the program. Mrs. Mary Gallegos is the only remaining member of the initial class held in 1982, Mr. Gallegos and Mrs. Rafaela Mireles followed in the second class held the same year and Ms. Consuelo Gomez came aboard in 1983. After retirement these four volunteers continued to give of themselves for the betterment of others. They have provided over 93,000 hours of volunteer service to over 350 children with special or exceptional needs during their tenure with the Foster Grandparent Program. Because of their continued service they were recently recognized with a Certificate of Recognition from Governor Perry for their service to the children of the State of Texas. The City of El Paso is proud to recognize their service.
