Montoya Heights Park
Montoya Heights Neighborhood Association requested that a much needed park be built in their neighborhood. Every effort was made to attend every meeting, public hearing and City Council meetings in order to see their dream of a park come to be.
On August 25, 2006, their dream finally came true when they along with the Departments of Parks and Recreation and Community and Human Development hosted a ribbon cutting to inaugurate the new Montoya Heights Park.
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program funded the design and development of the 3.12 acre park located at 340 Coates Dr. with the following amenities: plastic coated park benches, picnic units with shade canopies, a basketball court, lighting, trash receptacles, new playground equipment with canopy shading, a walk/jog path, an irrigation system, landscaping to include 150 trees, sodding and park/rule signs.
The park was funded in the 31st Community Development Block
Grant Year (2005-2006) in the amount of $869,381 for both design and construction.
