Plaza Theatre Restoration Earns El Paso National MeritThrough a successful partnership between the City of El Paso and the El Paso Community Foundation, as well as various funding grants, the City has recovered a significant historical landmark and important element of El Paso's unique and rich heritage. First built in the 1920's and recognized as El Paso's most architecturally grand theatre, The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Centre, previously known as The Showplace of the Southwest, is set to open this month as a performing arts facility that will garner many new opportunities for public gathering in the City. The completion of this initiative is the largest private investment ever made to a public facility in the City.

The City is proud and honored to be celebrating this honor and the reopening of the Plaza Theatre that took place Friday, March 17.

Patricia D. Adauto, Deputy City Manager of Development and Infrastructure Services; Beto O'Rourke, City Representative (District #8); Phyllis Rawley, Executive Director of the El Paso Empowerment Zone and congressional staff attended the awards ceremony.
