Coming Soon to El Paso…More Parks!
Mayor and Council have approved a new park ordinance that will revitalize the quality of life in neighborhoods by increasing the number of parks 100%.
The City has taken an aggressive approach towards implementing more parks within the community. The additional parks and facilities will enable more citizens to enjoy the health and recreational benefits they provide. Highlights of the changes to the Parkland Dedication Ordinance require developers to:
- Provide 1 acre of parkland for every 100 new single and two family homes (doubling the prior number of 1 acre per 200 homes)
- Provide 1 acre of parkland for every 200 multi-family units, such as apartment complexes (previously 1 acre for every 425 lots)
- Pay a park fee in lieu of parkland of $1,635.00 for single and two family homes
- Pay a park fee in lieu of parkland of $815.00 for multi-family units
The new parks will include amenities such as park benches, picnic tables, trees, lighting, a playground unit and fencing, providing attractive scenery in alignment with El Paso's consistent growth. Changes to the ordinance are expected to be reflected within the next month.
