Mayor's 100 Teens - Help to Recognize Our Community's Teens
The Mayor's 100 Teens is a yearlong community collaboration that recognizes and celebrates teenagers. This program focuses on heralding the achievements of youth who do not routinely receive recognition but who nonetheless make a difference in unique, personal ways. Its mission is to create a community that values teens and promotes a positive image of them. The program's goals are to:
Teens who have overcome adversity, provided service to others, achieved something significant and who lead by example deserve to be honored. In recognizing them, the program intends to inspire more teens to higher levels of service and accomplishment. The Mayor's 100 Teens are selected by committee members of the El Paso Optimist Club from nominations that describe teens who have:
- Recognize a diverse group of high school teens
- Collaborate with youth-serving organizations and businesses
- Achieve prominent exposure for promising teenagers in the community
- Send a strong message to teens that they are important to the community
Nominations may be submitted by teachers, counselors, family (but not parents) or others who recognize an individual's spirit, drive and accomplishments. Only teens currently in grades 9, 10 or 11 are eligible. Nomination forms are available on the Mayor's website, www.elpasotexas.gov/mayor, schools, libraries and a variety of other community locations. Call (915) 877-3319 or (915) 328-4637 for more information.
