When it comes to fundraising, most organizations try to choose a prize that will evoke desire and an "I must have it" reaction. We've seen the pretty diamond necklaces and occasionally a car up on the auction stage….but a trip to Africa?! One envisions Out of Africa's Meryl Streep having her hair gently washed by Robert Redford on the grasslands of the African outback. Can't you just picture it?

The El Paso Zoological Society is betting that vivid cinematic image will be just one reason El Pasoans will purchase a ticket for their chance to journey to a land with exotic animals and breathtaking scenery. The trip of a lifetime….an Africa Safari for two!

Over the years, through grants and donations, the El Paso Zoological Society has assisted the El Paso Zoo in its offering of educational programs such as the "Traveling Safari" - which visits local schools with a series of informational classes. Similarly, the Zoo Camp has taught thousands of students the message of conservation and nature. So what better for this year's Dreams of Africa Gala than the chance to see the wonders of nature with a grand prize trip to Kenya - with all raffle proceeds benefiting the El Paso Zoo. The drawing is May 19th at the El Paso Country Club, only 500 tickets are being sold at $100 dollars apiece and the winner does not have to be present. Call the El Paso Zoological Society - 532-8156 for all the entry details. So move over Meryl….Africa, here we come - if we win!
