Council Reviews and Lauds Progress on Strategic Goals
City Manager Joyce Wilson and executive staff briefed the Mayor and City Council late last week on the organization's response in 2006 to the City Council's ambitious strategic policy goals.
Highlights included:
- Establishment of all key financial policies and adherence to strict financial governance and oversight
- Full implementation of internal audit function
- Implementation of customer service feedback mechanisms and citywide survey
- Development of new customer service mission statement
- Implementation of new recruitment and training strategies with a customer service focus
- Revamped neighborhood service focus - leadership academy, renewed focus on new neighborhood associations, conservation and revitalization efforts, new ordinance with enhanced notification
- Launch of a new brand and image campaign
- Progress on a host of major land use policies - open space, subdivision code, zoning ordinance rewrite, landscape ordinance revisions, etc.
- Roll out of new Museum and Cultural Affairs Program
- Revamped all economic development efforts and partnerships
All this occurred while city leaders and staff focused almost exclusively on the continuous Storm 2006 response and recovery that has dominated the City's agenda since August of '06. Work will continue on behalf of City staff to assist in the further realization of the Council's established Strategic Policy Goals.
The complete update given by executive staff on the progress of the Strategic Goals will soon be available on the City's website: www.elpasotexas.gov
