City Offers Information on How New General Homestead Exemption Will be Administered
With the approval and announcement of the new general homestead exemption being offered by the City of El Paso entity, city officials would like to advise property tax payers of what they need to do in order to receive the exemption.
Eligible property owners who have already applied at the Central Appraisal District to receive the existing County of El Paso's homestead exemption and their respective school district's homestead exemption DO NOT NEED TO RESUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR THE CITY'S NEW GENERAL HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION. The exemption will automatically be included with the others in their October 2007 property tax bill.
Individuals who HAVE NOT previously applied for either of the existing County or School District homestead exemptions SHOULD SUBMIT AN APPLICATION at the Central Appraisal District to receive the County and School district exemptions, as well as the City's.
The new .1% general exemption that was approved at yesterday's City Council meeting means the average, eligible taxpayer will see a $5,000 reduction in the portion of their home's appraised value that is taxed by the City.
