New Lower Valley Branch Library Is Now Open
After forty-six years, residents of the Lower Valley have a new library to call their own. The old building opened in 1960 and was the second branch behind Memorial Park to enter the Public Library system in El Paso. The new Lower Valley Library has moved from its old location on San Jose Rd. to a new, state-of-the-art facility, located at 610 N. Yarbrough on the corner of Yarbrough and San Paulo Dr. Situated near Bel Air High School it is poised in a prime position to serve the youth of the area.
The grand opening for the new library took place in mid-January.
The new Lower Valley Branch Library is 15,000 square feet - twice the size of the old library. It has a modern colorful design with a 20-station computer lab, a multi-purpose public meeting room with capacity for approximately 100 people, a conference room, a quiet reading area, a
book-store and a Teen Hangout area. The Teen Hangout will include special furniture, books, magazines, CD's, audio/visual equipment and other amenities especially for teens. Funding for the project was provided by the 2000 Quality of Life bond issue.
