Servicing the Environment: Environmental Services
Solid Waste Management has taken the next step in the evolution of trash collection. The Department of Solid Waste Management is now known as "Environmental Services." But why? To expand its endeavors of servicing and cleaning our environment. Environmental Services now encompasses various areas to better serve the community, which include:
But Environmental Services cannot do it alone. The Department partners with Keep El Paso Beautiful to host four (4) major clean-ups: Gift to the Mountain, Great American Clean-up, Gift to the River and Pride Day. The support doesn't stop there. The Department is involved with neighboring clean-ups almost every week of the year. Part of the success of these clean-ups is having the right equipment. The Tool Shed program was created to offer the needed equipment to area residents. Keep El Paso Beautiful, Paso Del Norte Health Foundation, Home Depot, El Paso Fire Department and Environmental Services sponsor these tool sheds. A sanctioned neighborhood association, or community group (of at least 20 people) can borrow tools and gloves and pick-up trash bags at no cost. There are currently 8 Fire Stations equipped with tool sheds:
- Asbestos / Molds/ Air Quality
- Code Compliance
- Environmental Management
- EPA / TCEQ Compliance
- Solid Waste Management

Keep El Paso Beautiful is actively seeking sponsors for the Tool Shed Program and interested parties are urged to contact Katherine Palafox at 546-6742. This is just one program that Environmental Services supports to help our environment. After all …
