The El Paso Weed and Seed Collaborative has developed a comprehensive, holistic and sustainable strategy and approach that will address many of the physical, economic, social and criminal issues of the Chamizal Neighborhood. The strategy identifies problems and solutions to address high and pending Law Enforcement issues, Community Policing issues, Prevention/Intervention/Treatment concerns and Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area (NRSA) neighborhood restoration component. In addition to numerous meetings with residents, non-profits, businesses and other stakeholders to ascertain issues and concerns, extensive demographic analysis was conducted to identify systemic issues in the neighborhood. This strategy represents the results of collaborative efforts to identify and comprehensively resolve the issues of this neighborhood.

Weed and Seed Strategy

WEED AND SEED STEERING COMMITTEE

The Weed and Seed Steering Committee is the governing body that provides the organizational structure for building a commitment to the Chamizal Neighborhood Weed and Seed Community. The Steering Committee coordinates programs and services for the local residents of the Chamizal Neighborhood by identifying the areas of greatest needs and prioritizing problem resolutions. The Steering Committee establishes the policies and procedures; develops the mission and goals; coordinates subcommittee activities; oversees development of the Weed and Seed strategy; approves changes to the strategic plan; approves all budgets and subsequent amendments to the budget; provides leadership and advocacy for the Weed and Seed strategy; and provides feedback to the residents of the Chamizal Neighborhood for issues identified by the residents.

Weed and Seed Steering Committee meetings are open to the public and are held on the first Tuesday of every month at the: Armijo Recreation Center, 700 E. 7th St., 4:00 pm, in the Aquatics Conference Room
