From the Keyboard of the Chair:
Our annual neighborhood summit is now history - literally. From my perspective, the summit was a rousing success - we were able to meet our projections for attendees and display tables. In addition, we were able to provide a meal and have the program booklets printed with any expense to the City of El Paso - many thanks to Saul Sustaita and Evercare and Secure Horizons, and the Area Agency on Aging. We were fortunate to have 2 speakers from Austin - Mark Narvaez from the state offices of AARP conducted a workshop on pedestrian safety and livable communities and The Texas Securities Commission provided a workshop on fraud and schemes being perpetrated by unscrupulous con men that prey on Texans. Jodi Todd did a masterful job at the registration table coordination all of the confusion that comes with so many people arriving in such a short time. Many thanks to Doug Echlin and Albertson's for the goodie bags. The planning for next year's summit has already begun and if you want to volunteer to make our 5th Annual Summit bigger and better, please email me at hwsparks@sbcglobal.net to get involved. Now for my apologies - I have been gently criticized for offending those in attendance and our elected and appointed officials for using the term blah-blah-blah. I offer my sincere and humble apologies if I offended anyone by using that term - I realize the serious nature of the work of the summit - this was my attempt to keep the atmosphere as casual and lighthearted as possible - I realize that this was not very professional on my part. To all that took offense to my remarks, please, accept my apologies - I intended no offense. To this end, I will also make a personal apology to our elected officials. For all that you do to make El Paso a better place to live - Many thanks! H. W. "Bill" Sparks Chairman, El Paso Neighborhood Coalition Council El Paso Texas USA .... Home of the Amigo Man! 594-7022 |
