Upon
adoption of the Council-Manager form of government, positions within the
City's organization that were then designated as Deputy Chief Administrative
Officer (CAO) were translated into Deputy City Manager positions.
Currently, the City has three major portfolios, or departmental divisions, that are overseen by Deputy City Managers: Quality of Life Services, Financial & Administrative Services and Infrastructure & Development Services.
Deputies, under administrative direction from the City Manager, provide a vital oversight function that helps the City Manager effectively run such a large operation. They work to accomplish various tasks including:
- Coordinating executive management,
- Optimizing service delivery and cost effectiveness,
- Planning, developing, organizing, implementing, directing and controlling policies and strategies through the department heads within their portfolio.
