IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR NEW HIRES ELIGIBLE FOR BENEFITS

We HIGHLY recommend that you spend some time and use the City’s ALEX Interactive Benefits Advisor to learn about your benefits and get help making decisions on the plans available for you. ALEX will explain detailed information and walk you through different scenarios and estimated annual costs based on the scenarios you provide. A Personal Benefits Summary is emailed to you recapping the benefits discussed and other important information for you.

NON UNIFORM EMPLOYEES

  •  A Benefits Packet is handed out during HR in-processing so employees get a chance to review available benefits. Employees select and enroll in benefits during New Employee On-Boarding (NEBO) scheduled. Please bring Benefits Packet back with you to NEBO.
  • Benefits Staff will explain benefits during NEBO and answer any questions you may have.
  • All employees eligible for health benefits will be automatically enrolled in the City’s Consumer Driven Health Plan (CDHP), Employee Only option. To waive the medical plan or enroll in the other Basic or Buy Up options, you must make the selection in writing through a Benefits Enrollment Form.
  • Coverage begins the first of the month following 30 days from the date of hire.
  • City collects deductions one (1) month in advance except for Flexible Spending Arrangements or Health Savings Accounts
  • Employees who do not enroll during the first 30 days of employment will have to wait until the next annual Open Enrollment period or during a Qualifying Life Change Event

UNIFORM POLICE AND FIRE EMPLOYEES

  • Benefits Staff explains benefits at the Benefits Presentation during the Training Academy normally scheduled during the first couple of weeks. A Benefits Packet is handed out during this time.
  • Benefits Staff returns within two weeks to enroll employees in benefits. Please bring Benefits Packet back with you for this Enrollment Session. Benefits Staff will explain Enrollment Process as a group and will be available for individual questions before employees are enrolled that day.
  • Medical coverage begins 60 days from the date of hire. All other ancillary benefits begin the first of the month following 60 days from the date of hire.
  • City collects deductions one (1) month in advance except for Flexible Spending Arrangements or Health Savings Accounts
  • Employees who do not enroll during the first 30 days of employment will have to wait until the next annual Open Enrollment period or during a Qualifying Life Change Event.
  • Uniform Fire employees ONLY: you will be automatically enrolled in the City’s Consumer Driven Health Plan (CDHP), Employee Only option. To waive the medical plan or enroll in the other Basic or Buy Up options, you must make the selection in writing through a Benefits Enrollment Form within the first 30 days of employment.
