City Manager and Deputy Recognized with YWCA REACH Awards
At the YWCA's 2007 REACH Awards Luncheon, City Manager Joyce Wilson and Deputy City Manager Deborah Hamlyn were recognized with the distinguished REACH award, presented by the YWCA.
The 2007 YWCA REACH First Award, which honors women who are firsts in a specific area, was presented to Wilson for her appointment as the City of El Paso’s very first City Manager. Wilson came to El Paso in 2004 and has served the City of El Paso for the last three years, bringing with her well over 20 years of experience in the city management field. Her involvement in the El Paso community also extends to various charity organizations, to include the Boys and Girls Club and the Salvation Army.
Deborah Hamlyn was recognized as the 2007 recipient for the REACH award in the Community Service category. Hamlyn has been with the City of El Paso for over 30 years and has been an incorporator of many non-profit organizations and a Board member of over 30 independent Boards and Commissions throughout her professional career.
YWCA REACH Award recipients are nominated on the following criteria:
- Have been residents of the El Paso del Norte region for at least 3 years
- Exhibit qualities of leadership, initiative, and creativity
- Promote positive attitudes and high morals
- Make significant contributions to their business, organization, community or schools
- Serve as role models for other women
- Live the YWCA's four core leadership values of Respect, Integrity, Responsibility and Community Outreach
Members of City of El Paso leadership have been active recipients of past REACH awards. Wilson and Hamlyn are preceded in their REACH recognition by Deputy City Manager Patricia Adauto. Adauto was the 2005 REACH Award recipient in the Business – Executive category.
