El Paso Museum of Art
Teacher Resources
The El Paso Museum of Art offers learning opportunities for teachers in the El Paso border region throughout the year. The Museum is certified by the Texas State Board for Education Certification to award Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit to teachers who participate in EPMA teacher programs.
Educator Evening
The Museums and Cultural Affairs Department (MCAD) is responsible for organizing Educator Evening. Educator Evening provides an opportunity to offer educators information about select exhibitions and resources for cross-curriculum planning. The events are also an opportunity to celebrate those in the teaching profession as well as to promote the many services and resources available to them through the El Paso Museum of Art, El Paso Museum of History, and El Paso Museum of Archeology. EPMA provides a monthly electronic newsletter listing current and upcoming exhibitions, programs and events that may be of interest. The service was developed to keep area educators connected to the Museum and informed of programs. Email wilsonnx@elpasotexas.gov to sign up to receive monthly e-mails. Be sure to include your name and district information.
Teacher Resource Library
The El Paso Museum of Art is a repository of educational materials about the history of Eastern and Western art drawn from the collections of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. - Materials include video-tapes, DVDs, slides, and posters. Materials from the Resource Library may be checked out to educators in K-12 classrooms. Home school parents may also borrow materials for use in the home-classroom environment. The Teacher Resource Library is currently under renovation. In order to check out materials, please call and schedule an appointment with the Education Department at 915.532.1707.
Pre & Post Museum Visit art activities available for Teacher download.
Before a scheduled tour, teachers can now download information on specific works of art in the EPMA collection, with additional information on the artist, techniques, vocabulary, visual aids, and handouts included in PDF format.
These activities are created to be at a 4th grade TEKS level, and trained staff and volunteers are available to give class tours to correspond to particular works of art represented in these activities.
