“SENIOR ALL-STAR FOOTBALL CLASSIC WEEK”
| WHEREAS: |
The 17th Annual All Star Football Classic will be held on December 20th, 2008 at UTEP’s Sun Bowl Stadium; and |

| WHEREAS: |
The All-Star Football Classic showcases El Paso County high school seniors who excel in both academics and their chosen extracurricular activities of football, cheerleading; drill team; choir, JROTC, band or sports medicine; and |
| | |
| WHEREAS: |
The All-Star Football Classic offers these students an opportunity for scholarships and showcases the spirit of competition and the quest for excellence; and |
| | |
| WHEREAS: |
The All-Star Football Classic establishes a foundation for a better future through higher education; citizenship and health, and has awarded scholarships totaling more than $325,000.00 over the last thirteen years to area high school seniors; and |
| | |
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Mayor and Council of the City of El Paso that the week of December 10th - 20th, 2008 shall be known as:
“SENIOR ALL-STAR FOOTBALL CLASSIC WEEK”
“ANA SERRANO DAY”
| WHEREAS: |
Mountain Villa Nursing Center recognizes 35 years of loyal service of Ana Serrano. Hired September 26, 1974, she has the longest tenure among the staff. Mountain Villa used to be Rest Haven until it was bought by the present management in 1994. Ana has worked for four owners over the years; and |

| WHEREAS: |
Ana Serrano’s passion for caring never wore off. She is as dedicated to her work now as the first day she came to work. Although the work is demanding and overwhelming at times, she remains dedicated and enjoys her work. The residents and employees speak well of her. She is very positive about life being a cancer survivor herself. Among the awards that she has received from Mountain Villa over the years are Employee of the Year–2003, Loyalty – 2006, Caring Attitude–2007, Making a Difference: Culture change 2008; and |

| WHEREAS: |
Ana Serrano is ahead of her time. Mountain Villa learned a lot from her. In 1994, she convinced management about consistency of staffing. She conceptualized that taking care of the same residents instead of changing assignments is beneficial for the residents. The employees and the residents become more acquainted and thus easier for the resident and caregiver; and |

| WHEREAS: |
Consistency of staffing is now embraced by the long term care industry and it proves that her foresight is genuine. Led by human compassion and common sense approaches to care for the elderly in a home-like atmosphere and familiar caregivers; seminars all over the country are now being conducted to share this practical information about culture change; and |
| | |
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED: by the Mayor and Council of the City of El Paso that December 16th, 2008 shall be known as:
“ANA SERRANO DAY”
“SAM’S CLUB TEACHER OF THE YEAR DAY IN EL PASO”
| WHEREAS: |
Teachers play an important role in helping young people succeed. Great teachers inspire and challenge their students and deserve to be honored for their excellence education; and |

| WHEREAS: |
More than 30,000 teachers throughout the United States and Puerto Rico have received $1,000 in educational grants through the 2008 Sam’s Club Teacher of the Year program, honoring the “best of the best”; and |

| WHEREAS: |
We as a city are proud of the educational endeavors of teacher, Laura Calcaterra, that has been selected as Sam’s Club Teacher of the Year for the leadership she shows toward our future generations; and |
| | |
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Mayor and Council of the City of El Paso that December 16th, 2008 shall be known as:
“SAM’S CLUB TEACHER OF THE YEAR DAY IN EL PASO”
