Collections

The primary focus of the collections is prehistoric artifacts from the Southwest, including northern México. These include pottery, flaked stone, ground stone, and perishable objects such as ancient basketry and sandals from the Mogollon, Casas Grandes, and Anasazi cultures. Historic pottery, baskets and weavings from Pueblo, Athabaskan Indians and the Tarahumara of Chihuahua provide continuity with extinct cultural remains. Additionally, ceramic figurines and small stone pieces from Mesoamerica (central, west, northern and southern México) are represented. Other materials include beaded leatherwork from Plains tribes and small objects from Northwest coastal groups.
